Union County Environmental Health is responsible for the enforcement of N.C. Public Health Rules and Regulations across all parts of Union County, including within municipalities. Environmental Health also administers two county ordinances (Solid Waste Management and Mass Gathering) that are enforceable in unincorporated Union County, Hemby Bridge and Mineral Springs.
The Union County Fire Marshal’s Office has a primary responsibility of enforcing the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code that requires commercial occupancies be inspected on an arranged schedule depending on the occupancy type.
The Union County Planning Department is responsible for administering the policies of the Board of County Commissioners regarding long-range planning (future direction of growth and facilities) and current planning (standards for growth as embodied in development ordinances). The Planning Department encompasses zoning, stormwater, urban forestry, transportation planning, and other key functions.
Union County Water serves more than 60,000 customer accounts throughout its service area, including Indian Trail, Marvin, Stallings, Unionville, Weddington, Wesley Chapel, Waxhaw, and unincorporated areas of the county.
