Union County Social Services plays a vital role in the building of families through adoption. We actively recruit, assess and select loving homes for children who are cleared for adoption and have experienced the foster care system in North Carolina.

The majority of the children available are minority children, have special mental or emotional needs, are older children or may be in sibling groups. We are always searching for stable and compassionate families who are willing to open their hearts and homes to these special children.

When children become available for adoption, or their parents' rights are terminated, they are prepared for placement in a permanent home. These children need help to adjust emotionally to their new families, so they can have the best opportunity to live a secure, joyful, and steady life.

Assessments and reports are prepared and submitted to the Court for Stepparent/Relative or Independent Adoptions. A fee, which is determined on a sliding scale based on family income, is associated with this service. These reports are required by the Clerk of Court’s office before an adoption can be finalized.
