Union County is dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors and their families.

Adult Protective Services
Ensuring the safety and dignity of all adults through vigilant protection and advocacy. 
Senior Nutrition Program
Offering nutritious meals to residents, ages 60 and older, both at home* and through community sites. *Clients may be placed on a waiting list.
Transportation Services
Making it easier for individuals to travel to and from important medical visits, work and errands.
Veterans Services
Helping veterans and their families access benefits for disability, pension, healthcare and more.

Our Human Services Agency also provides: 

Crisis Intervention & Energy Assistance

Evaluates individuals and families in crisis to determine their eligibility for services, including energy bill assistance for medically required temperature regulation.

Access to food assistance programs that cater to specific nutritional needs.

Functional Needs Registry

Seniors with disabilities or special needs are encouraged to register, helping first responders identify those requiring emergency assistance.

If you have any questions, email our Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.

Guardianship

Advocating for disabled individuals ensuring their rights and well-being are prioritized. 

You may be referred to the additional services.

In-Home Aide & Adult Day Care

Assists eligible, disabled adults to safely remain in their homes.

Provides an in home aide, as well as a social worker to monitor, advocate and assist an individual and/or their family with these goals. 

Public Health Clinics, Screenings and Vaccinations

Keeping our community healthy with immunizations and providing eligible senior women with breast and cervical cancer screenings. 

What should you do if you suspect mistreatment of an older adult or an adult with a disability?

When you suspect mistreatment, NC law requires you to contact Adult Protective Services at the Department of Social Services in the county where the adult is living. 

In Union County, you can report suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation using the following methods:

  • APS Intake Hotline: 704-296-6124
  • After Hours: 704-289-1591 (Ask to speak with the on-call Social Worker)
  • Fax: 704-296-4404
  • General Questions (Regular Hours): 704-296-4300

If the adult is in any immediate danger or health risk, call 911 or emergency services.
