Veterans Benefits Live

  • Introduction: Three-day open house to offer in-person support to vets and their families. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other partners will help attendees one-on-one with their benefits, claims, appeals and other concerns.
  • Thursday, Aug. 22, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Friday, Aug. 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Saturday, Aug. 24, 9 a.m. to  2 p.m. 

Mecklenburg County Veterans Services and other partners are sponsoring Veterans Benefits Live: VA in My Town: Mecklenburg County. The three-day, single-stop open house will help veterans and their families or caregivers navigate the many services available to them. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other partners will help attendees one-on-one with their benefits, claims, appeals and other concerns.   

Please bring the documents that pertain to your case: DD 214, medical and service records that pertain to your disability, and dependency documents.

Other services include:

  • Classroom sessions on VA benefits and services held every hour
  • Veteran Readiness and Employment benefits, VA Life Insurance, Home Loan, and Education information
  • VA Hiring Booth - Bring your resume and learn more about a career with VA
  • Mental health counseling resources offered by the VA Mobile Vet Center
  • Homeless, low-income housing, social, and vocational support services
  • Vendors and services from community partners and much more
  • Lunch will be provided for all attendees free of charge

Union County’s Veterans Services Officer, Robert Turner, will assist in supporting this event on Saturday, Aug. 24. Mr. Turner is accredited by the North Carolina Division of Military and Veterans Affairs, National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. Robert served in the US Army for 12 years, deploying twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
