This is a public meeting for Union County property owners to learn more about the state's efforts to update the state flood maps. Read more about this effort here.
Union County has mailed notification to affected property owners in unincorporated areas of the county and in Hemby Bridge. Several municipalities in Union County have sent notification letters to affected property owners in their communities. If you received one of these letters, we encourage you to attend this public meeting. A representative from the N.C. Department of Public Safety will share more information about how the state’s floodplain maps are created and how you can appeal if desired. County and municipal staff will also be present to answer questions about their local government's respective restrictions on development in the floodplain.
If you have not received a letter about this meeting from Union County or your municipality, but you wish to view the state’s proposed changes to the flood maps and verify that there is no impact to your property, you can do so online. Please see our Flood Maps page for additional information, including a guide and a video to help you navigate the state’s map and find the information you need.
