Tommy Taylor Fishing Tournament

Join Cane Creek park for the 8th annual Tommy Taylor Fishing Tournament on Saturday, April 15, from 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Official Rules & Regulations

  1. Participants
    Each boat must have no more than two participants per boat. Individual anglers may enter the tournament alone.
  2. Safety
    Safe boating conduct must be observed at all times by participants. Special caution and safety must be observed on morning start. Boats and safety equipment will be subject to inspection by the Wildlife Commission Officers or Park Staff.
  3. Fishing Conditions
    The tournament will be held regard-less of weather conditions. All fishing must be done from a boat.
  4. Fishing Regulations
    All NC Inland Fishing Regulations shall apply.
  5. Boats & Motors
    There are be no restrictions on the size or type of boat nor the size of the motor, with the stipula-tion that all crafts must be judged seaworthy by the Tournament Rules Committee.
  6. Boat Identification
    Each contestant will report to the official starter on the morning of the tournament and re-ceive an official identification number which must accom-pany them at weigh-in.

  8. Permitted Fishing Location
    Fishing is permitted any-where on the lake with exception that there will be no fishing allowed within 50 feet of another contestant's boat, marked swim area or pedal boat area.
  9. Tournament Fishing Hours
    Fishing will commence with the starter’s signal at 7:30 am or shortly thereafter and will end at 2:30 pm. There will be a penalty of eight (8) ounces per minute past 2:30 pm and disqualification after fifteen (15) minutes.
  10. Protests
    Any contestant wishing to protest the catch of a fellow contestant must do so in writing to the Tournament Rules Committee within twenty (20) minutes of the weigh-in time. The decision of the Com-mittee in such cases will be final.
  11. Ties
    In the event of ties, the tie will be broken by means acceptable to the tournament officials.
  12. Sportsmanship
    Sportsmanship, safety, courtesy and conservation are expected from each contestant. Any violation of fundamental sporting principles may be deemed cause for disqualification as any infraction of any other rule or regulation listed herein
  13. Flotation Device
    Each participant is required to wear a fastened US Coast Guard approved personal floatation device anytime the combustion engine is running from boat check until weigh-in on the day of the tournament
  14. No Alcoholic Beverages Allowed
  15. Livewells will be checked during brief meeting with each team prior to tournament start.
  16. No Refunds!
  17. Registration
    All boat occupants must be entered in the tournament.
  18. Limit 5 fish per boat.
    Minimum 16 inches in length. Any fish under 16 inches in length at weigh-in will be penalized 2 oz. per undersized fish. Undersized fish will not be weighed in. Dead fish will not be allowed to be weighed in.
