  • Date: 02/27/2023 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Introduction: Interested well users should come to one of the locations below, complete a short survey, and pick up a free test kit on Monday, Feb. 27, noon - 6 p.m.

In partnership with Union County Environmental Health, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Superfund Research Program is offering free well water tests to private well users in Union County. The purpose of this study is to prevent and reduce harmful exposure to contaminated well water.

Interested well users should come to one of the locations below, complete a short survey, and pick up a free test kit on Monday, Feb. 27, noon - 6 p.m.

Locations:

Union County Human Services Building
2330 Concord Ave.
Monroe, NC 28110
NC Cooperative Extension
3230 Presson Rd.
Suite D.
Monroe, NC 28112

After collecting a sample of your well water, drop off the test kit on Tuesday, Feb. 28, between 6 a.m. - 4 p.m. at either of the two locations listed above.

The samples will be analyzed for inorganic metal contamination. The results will remain confidential. Water quality results will be emailed and mailed to residents’ homes, and a follow-up community meeting will be held in the county to report back results and answer participant questions.

If you have questions about participating, please contact Andrew George at andrewg@unc.edu or 919.966.7839.

This study is supported by the UNC Superfund Research Program (http://sph.unc.edu/srp) and funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (#P42ES031007-01).
